Filed under: Uncategorized — mrsrybathirdgrade @ 4:07 pm

The holidays are officially here!

When we return from Thanksgiving break, students will be attending Santa’s Secret Shop. You should have received information about this today. Check folders/backpacks if you haven’t seen it.
Our class is scheduled to shop on Wednesday, December 4. There will be a variety of gift items for sale. Create a list and budget ahead of time so your student is prepared when we go. We only get 30 minutes to shop. Questions, please ask!

I will also be sending a note home about our “Christmas/holiday” party, so please look for that next week as well.

I am thankful to have such a wonderful class that is so enthusiastic, kind, and helpful! I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Many thanks to the PTO for providing all students and staff with an awesome WT tshirt! It was really neat to see all the kids (and adults!) wearing their “Believe Achieve Excel” shirts today.

Reminder: Many students said they have been selling their cookie dough. Order forms are due on Tuesday (October 1). Thanks for your support with our first fundraiser this year!

Also happening Tuesday, October 1, we will begin our attendance initiative. We will share the details with students on Monday and information will also be sent home for you as well.

New school year! August 28, 2013

We are off to a great start! I am enjoying our new third grade class very much. Everyone came in ready to learn and on their best behavior.

This week (WOW week) we have had different activities and dress up days. Thursday is “team day” and students are encouraged to wear a team uniform or clothing that supports that favorite team.
Friday is Buddy day and students are encouraged to wear their buddy gear from previous years or wear your spirit wear.

Please visit my blog regularly. I do my best to share important information here.

OAA testing April 21, 2013

Filed under: Uncategorized — mrsrybathirdgrade @ 11:54 am

This week is a very important week for our 3rd graders. On Tuesday, April 23, third grade students will take the Spring Reading OAA. On Friday, April 26, they will take the Math OAA.

We plan to begin testing as soon as possible in the morning, so please be sure your students are at school on time. We also ask that students get a good night’s sleep and have a healthy breakfast so they are ready to do their best on these tests.

We have been working very hard preparing for these tests and I am confident that our third graders are ready to rock the OAA!

Week of March 4 March 2, 2013

Not sure where February went, but here we are in March!

Spring Pictures are happening on Tuesday, March 5. We will be taking a class photo and each student will get an individual photo taken. Forms were sent home last week so you could choose your background and pose. All students will receive a packet of photos for you to decide if you want to purchase them or not. There is no payment needed on Tuesday.

This past Friday students in grades 2-5 attended our annual OAA Kick Off assembly. This means that we are only 7 short weeks away from OAA testing in grades 3-5! We will be focusing on good test taking skills over the next 7 weeks and each student will be working toward earning a star for demonstrating the test taking skills in class. The stars earned will add up to the amount of time each student will be invited to attend our OAA dance, which is a fun time planned for after the testing period is over for the kids to celebrate their hard work. It is going to be a busy 7 weeks ahead preparing our students to do their best on the test!

More information will be coming about testing at a later date.

In Reading, we are into our Unit about being unique. This week we are reading another biography and students will be doing some research to write a biography of their own. In Math, we have started our chapter on Fractions.

Week of February 11 February 10, 2013

This week is a very short week for students at WT. We have class Monday – Wednesday and then a LOOONG mid-winter break.

Last week I sent home a list of the students in our class for writing out Valentines. It is not mandatory to pass out Valentines, but I will set aside some time on Wednesday afternoon for students to pass them out. We made bags in school for this purpose so boxes are not necessary to send in. If you are choosing to pass out Valentines please be sure that there is one for each student and no one is excluded.

We are currently in our Review Week of Reading Street so there is no spelling or Gist. This week the only homework you can expect is Math homework to help students practice their division strategies.

After the presentations of our trioramas retelling myths (thanks to those parents who helped students gather materials to bring in to complete these projects!), I hope to post some pictures to share the students’ great work!

Enjoy the long weekend!
